RECIPE: Golden Milk Ghee Latte
Ghee is a type of clarified butter that has been used in traditional Indian cooking and Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. One of its notable health benefits comes from its high concentration of butyric acid, a short-chain fatty acid (not an amino acid). Butyric acid plays a crucial role in maintaining gut health.
Here’s why butyric acid in ghee is important for your gut:
-
Supports Gut Lining: Butyric acid is essential for the health of colon cells. It serves as an energy source for the cells in the lining of the gut, helping to maintain the integrity of the gut wall. This can prevent conditions like leaky gut, where toxins and partially digested food particles pass into the bloodstream.
-
Reduces Inflammation: Butyric acid has anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe inflammation in the digestive tract. This is particularly helpful for people suffering from inflammatory bowel diseases like Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
-
Promotes Healthy Gut Bacteria: Butyric acid helps create a favorable environment for beneficial gut bacteria to thrive. A healthy balance of gut bacteria is key for digestion, nutrient absorption, and a strong immune system.
-
Improves Digestion: By supporting gut health and promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria, ghee (through its butyric acid content) can help improve digestion, nutrient absorption, and overall gastrointestinal function.
Butyric acid is a powerful component in ghee that plays a big role in gut health. One delicious way to get a daily dose of butyric acid for gut health is a Golden Milk Ghee Latte.
This warming and lightly sweetened golden milk ghee latte is packed with nutrients from turmeric, cinnamon, ghee, almond butter, and collagen. Make a batch of the golden milk ghee latte spice blend (maybe double the recipe?) to have on hand so you can whip up your golden milk at a moment's notice!
