LED Light Therapy:
You’ve probably seen LED face masks on your socials, but not all light therapy devices are alike. We chose the professional-grade Celluma for a few reasons:
1. Design: It’s small but mighty. Celluma’s “contouring design” conforms to all body parts, including awkward areas such as elbows, shoulders and ankles.
2. Ease of Use: Celluma phototherapy is hands-and stand free, and does not require monitoring during the treatment session. Making it an easy, effective and efficient therapy to fit into your life.
3. Integrity: Celluma light therapy is non-invasive, painless, requires no recovery time, and can be used on all skin types. Additionally, Celluma technology is clinically proven, FDA cleared and medically CE marked for skin and pain conditions.
We have two Cellumas available, this means that during each 30-minute session you can target two parts of your body. Acne and menstrual pain, surgical scar and wrinkles, arthritis and rosacea... You get the picture. But focusing on one concern is perfectly, perfect. Either way, when you arrive for your appointment we’ll set you up in the room, you’ll start the Celluma(s) and they automatically turn off after 30-minutes. Currently, the room is set up to lay down during your session, but if you require to be seated, let us know before you book so we can see what accommodation can be made.

BUT WHAT IS LED LIGHT THERAPY?
Light therapy was originally researched and developed by NASA. This low-level light therapy is known as photobiostimulation which provides therapeutic benefits. Astronauts used these low level lights to grow plants and also heal cuts while in space before it was FDA cleared for cosmetics purposes.
Celluma creates energy for compromised cells to regenerate itself, which pairs really nicely with treatments that exfoliate or penetrate the skin. Celluma is FDA cleared for treating wrinkles and acne along with body pain and inflammation.
Blue, red and near-infrared are the most commonly used wavelengths in LED phototherapy. These specific wavelengths are well researched and scientifically proven to produce therapeutic benefits.
WHAT ARE THE THREE COLORS FOR?
Blue penetrates through the epidermis and is known to kill P.acnes bacteria. So BLUE = ACNE. This is the blue dominant program and is anti-bacterial. The blue causes the C.Acnes bacteria to destroy itself.
Red penetrates into the dermal layer and has been shown to enhance collagen and elastin production through photo-biostimulation of fibroblasts. So RED = WRINKLES. This program addresses all skin related concerns, including what is commonly referred to as anti-aging: wrinkles, elasticity, etc.
Near-infrared penetrates deepest and increases micro-circulation (tissue repair), decreases inflammation and attenuates pain. So NEAR-INFRARED = HEALING. Use it for all body aches, scars, bruising, inflammation related conditions.
HOW DOES LED LIGHT THERAPY WORK
In the same way that plants use chlorophyll to convert sunlight into energy, high intensity light emitting diodes (LEDs) utilizing specific, proven wavelengths of light can trigger a natural biostimulatory effect in human tissue. Research has shown that light emitting diode (LED) or phototherapy can increase circulation, accelerate tissue repair, kill acne bacteria, decrease inflammation, improve acne prone skin, skin tone, texture and clarity, decrease under eye wrinkles as well as ease muscle and joint pain, stiffness, spasm, and pain associated with arthritis.
Research indicates that cells absorb particles of light (photons) and transform their energy into adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the form of energy that cells utilize. The resulting elevation of ATP is then used to power metabolic processes; synthesize DNA, RNA, proteins, enzymes, and other products needed to repair or regenerate cell components; foster mitosis or cell proliferation; and restore homeostasis. Simply put, the LED phototherapy source provides compromised cells with added energy so the cells performance is enhanced. For example, fibroblast cells will increase collagen and elastin production in connective tissue to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in our skin and increase the rate of wound healing.
