A Vinegar Moment in the Sun

They say you catch more flies with honey than vinegar and that’s fine and all (no shade to honey), but we wanted to take a vinegar moment.

Vinegars appear in many cuisines across both time and place (The first documented vinegar was made in 3000 B.C.. by the Babylonians. Wow.) and are a very versatile pantry item to keep stocked (think dressings, marinades, and dips).

And what exactly is vinegar?

Vinegar is made through a process of fermentation made up of water and acetic acid. The word vinegar comes from the Middle English and old French for sour wine.

The experts say that vinegars are a good source of antioxidants and are also a rich source of minerals and vitamins (within moderation of course!). In addition to this great news, early studies suggest that consuming a small amount of vinegar with your regular meals can significantly decrease what we call “bad cholesterol.”

Folk medicine has similarly hailed vinegar, however, no clinical results have backed up the claims just yet (you’ll have to go with your gut on this one).

Meet Parasol Champagne Vinegar

Parasol is a raw champagne vinegar from Brightland. We love it because it's double fermented with California chardonnay grapes and juicy Navel and Valencia oranges. It has bright citrusy notes and a zippy bite.

Pro Tips:

Parasol Champagne Vinegar can be added to dressings, splashed over salads, a marinade for grilled products, and a dash added to cocktails for a little bit of a champagne vinegar glow.

Meet Rapture Balsamic Vinegar

Rapture from Brightland is a raw balsamic vinegar. We love it because it's double fermented with California Zinfandel grapes and ripe Triple Crown blackberries. Its flavor is bold and decadent. Brightland is a family-run farm on California's Central Coast where all their products are made with love.

Pro Tips:

We love this Balsamic drizzled over fresh fruits, cheeses, greens, and desserts.

Why We Have a Crush on Brightland

Because they make products that are grounded and good for us. Founded by Aishwarya Iyer, Brightland's Olive Oils are sourced from a family-run California farm, and then crafted into custom-blended oils. Their sole ingredients come from trees that live on for thousands of years. Can you say, yum?

Meet the Apple Cider Vinegar
