The Goddess and the Ghee

Crafted in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains near Asheville, NC, Goddess Ghee is more than just a staple in our pantry; it’s a food medicine rooted in tradition, intention, and maternal care.

Goddess Ghee is what we call in retail as "mainstay," a product that is unwavering in our dedication to keeping it in stock ;-) It will always be in rotation. Here's why:

MEET THE GODDESS

Founded by Marion Hearth in 2015, this mama-founded and women-tended business began with a simple question: What am I already making that I can share with my community? The answer was ghee. What started at farmer’s markets with a baby on her hip has grown into a beloved brand with a devoted following—and a deeply held mission.

Marion often describes ghee as carrying “the essence of the Mother”—the golden oil rendered from the creamy nectar of mama cows. And Goddess Ghee is crafted with that same spirit: a maternal gift of nourishment for body, mind, and soul.

MEET THE GHEE
Often overlooked in the West—largely due to its South Asian roots, ghee deserves your attention. Used for thousands of years in Ayurvedic cooking and healing, ghee is a type of clarified butter (meaning the milk solids and water are removed, leaving behind pure butterfat), making it shelf-stable, less likely to burn at high heat, and easier to digest for many.

From a well-being perspective, ghee is rich in fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E, and K. But our favorite nutritional claim to fame? It’s a natural source of butyrate—a short-chain fatty acid known to support gut health and reduce inflammation. But flavor rules the roost. Ghee’s slightly nutty, toasted flavor adds depth to everything. Drizzled on root vegetables, dolloped in grains, or sizzling under an egg.
We can’t get enough of Goddess Ghee! Goddess Ghee specializes in traditionally made, small-batch ghee and herbal ghee blends using cultured butter from pasture-raised cows. Every jar is hand-poured on a local farm kitchen, mindfully prepared in prayer, and made with the belief that food can be both nourishing and sacred. Rich in flavor and fat-soluble vitamins, their ghee honors the ancient wisdom of Ayurvedic cooking while supporting sustainability and thriving wages for the team behind it.

From impeccable, organic ingredients to a workplace culture that honors rest and slowness, every step is tended with care. We think Goddess Ghee is for anyone who believes that nourishment can (and should!) be a daily joy.

________

After Marion and her team lost their entire stock in the devastating Asheville floods last year, their loyal customers rallied together to support a fundraising campaign, helping Goddess Ghee emerge stronger than ever. We were proud to support and fundraise for this very special business.
