Skin Freakouts

During transitional seasons (fall/spring), it’s always a good idea to rethink your approach to skin health. The change in temps, humidity, and allergens makes flareups common— and if you already suffer from acne, well, things can get a bit more intense.

From teenagehood to post-menopause, call it a blemish, pimple, or zit, no matter the season or reason, these critters are never welcome.
When treating acne it is important to address the internal systemic issue as well as the external.

With the right tools, and a little know-how, instead of feeling forced by circumstance, let’s take a moment to take a deep breath and care for our bodies in new ways.

Our esthetician Anne and our founder Jelena are both trained in the many ways that skin care can be addressed. While caring for your skin is an individual process, we found the below to be potent allys in the struggle with acne.

5 WAYS TO COMBAT ACNE
1. Probiotics
Probiotics are all about balancing the microbiome. We love Marie Veronique Pre+Probiotic Daily Mist. It works to maintain your skin's microbiome balance by encouraging helpful microorganisms to thrive. Prebiotics feed Probiotics to keep your skin's ecosystem cycle functioning smoothly. Coconut water profoundly hydrates while anti-inflammatories like calendula calm and soothe.

PREVENT ACNE by balancing the skin's microbiota— thereby reducing skin irritations that lead to inflammation.

2. Probiotics (again)
Probiotics are great both externally and internally. Dr Ohirra’s Probiotics Professional Formula uses a unique 5-year, long-term fermentation process to produce a superior bio-genically active probiotic supplement.

The rich food matrix is fermented together with 12 strains of Lactic Acid Bacteria resulting in a dense concentrate of naturally occurring probiotics, live probiotics and post-biotic metabolites which promote a healthy GI tract and improve gut health.

HEAL FROM THE INSIDE with a formula that combines ancient Japanese fermentation techniques with modern technology.

3. Colloidial Silver
Something to note, acne can also be caused by over-stripping with harsh cleansers. When the skin is so stripped, natural good bacteria is stripped from the skin barrier, leaving it drier which in turn produces more oil. Don’t get us started on exfoliation. ;-)

MAKE IT GO AWAY via restoring your skin with colloidal silver is a sure way to heal not only zits, but general dermal inflammation (including cuts, bites, burns, and rashes). La Lyra Restoration’s first ingredient is colloidial silver. Anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and ph balancing.

4. Charcoal
Once restored and balanced, Charcoal, known for it’s purifying properties can be a skincare skeleton key. An agent for purification, charcoal is a combatant against breakouts, pollution, sun damage, aging, and chronic skin conditions.

PURIFY VS DRY BREAKOUT with Binu Binu Shaman Black Charcoal Soap. You get a gentle tightening/post-exfoliating feeling but without all the damage. It's a highly detoxifying soap that can address issues above and below the surface of the skin.

5. Wild Honey
Since acne is caused due to the blockage and subsequent infection of the sebum glands, clearing the blockage and fighting the infection helps reduce your acne symptoms. Using a honey mask for acne not only clears the blockage but also removes the infectious microbes, thus reducing the signs of acne.

TREAT BREAKOUTS 2-WAYS with Skincando Wild Honey Mask + Cleanser. Once a week (we love Sundays!) apply this mask spa-style, and bask in a moment for yourself while also treating breakouts. And/or… use as a daily cleanser. Yup. Add some water to soften, and apply it like any other oil or cream-based cleanser. You'll be surprised by how lovely the application feels, and relieved by how effective it is
