A Boketto Moment with Aba of Aba Love Apothecary
We sat down *virtually* with Aba of Aba Love Apothecary to talk about skin healing, emotional bliss, and the word love.
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
Hello! My name is Aba. I am the founder of Aba Love Apothecary, a plant-based skincare and healing aromatics brand based in Brooklyn NY.
What do you love to do?
There’s so much to love these days, but what comes to mind first is gifting myself flowers every week, naps, meditation, dance, animals and travel daydreams.
How did you come to create Aba Love Apothecary?
Aba Love Apothecary came to fruition after I began finding new ways of taking care of my self. The idea that I could incorporate plant and flower essences into my self-care ritual began almost 10 years ago when my acupuncturist asked my how I was feeling. She not only needled me, she intuitively applied beautiful essential oils to my meridians and it was like…whoosh! The energy release and shift I felt afterwards was unlike I had ever experienced before. I found scent to be a powerful healer and effective compliment to my well-being practice. After years in self-study, lovingly making potions for co-workers, friends and family I began formal studies with Amy Galper and was certified by the National Association of Holistic Aromatherapy. Creating Aba Love was an accessible way for me to get people to incorporate aromatherapy into their lives in a way that is alchemically formulated for function (skin healing) with emotional bliss (uplifting the spirit).
What do you hope people experience using Aba Love Apothecary's line?
Outside of bringing skin to balance, it is my hope that people using our products experience a feeling of deep reconnection to their own beauty and they indulge in every second they create for themselves.
If you could have a tea or take a Boketto moment (a moment of daydreaming and of rest) with any person dead or alive who would it be?
The first names that come to me are American novelist Toni Morrison for her deeply moving way with stories, grace and vision. Living, it would be Amma, the hugging saint – she did bless me once and it was unforgettable.
What kind of tea would you have?
I would think we might all enjoy a beautiful rose bud tea with a touch of orange blossom honey – iced.
What does a moment of rest, recharging, or nourishment look like for you?
In the colder months it would likely be a 15-minute catnap followed by milky herbal coffee, earl grey tea or matcha. In the warmer months I love a long walk to the botanical gardens, lying down in the grass (in the shade) to close my eyes to bird songs and the summer breeze. Heaven. That both relaxes and recharges me. I cannot wait for that!
What's something you want people to know about you that I wouldn't think to ask?
That I created Aba Love Apothecary to be invitation for delight, self-discovery and experiences meant for them. And enjoying those experiences in the present moment is fuel to keep going.
Sun/Rising/Moon sign?
Gemini Sun, Cancer Rising, Pisces Moon. I’m also a fraternal twin #starspoiled
