Hair Oiling for Beginners
Many people struggle with hair thinning or hair loss at some point in their lives, whether due to stress, poor diet, hormonal changes, or environmental factors. Those with naturally thin hair may find it challenging to add fullness and strength, while others may experience hair loss due to aging or changes in their health. Regular application of a hair & scalp oil (AKA: Hair Oiling) is an easy and natural way to support healthier, thicker hair for anyone looking to improve the strength and appearance of their strands.
The Menopause Factor
For those navigating menopause, hair thinning can become even more pronounced as hormone levels fluctuate. Menopause is often accompanied by significant hormonal changes, particularly a drop in estrogen and progesterone. These hormones play a crucial role in the hair growth cycle, and when they decrease, the balance of hair growth and shedding can be disrupted. Estrogen, in particular, promotes hair growth and helps keep hair in its growth phase longer. As levels decline during menopause, hair may shed more quickly and fail to regrow as efficiently.
Additionally, the decrease in estrogen can lead to an increase in androgens (male hormones), which are linked to hair thinning, particularly along the hairline and crown. This condition is known as female-pattern hair loss and is common during menopause. Many people also experience dry, brittle hair due to the reduction in natural oils that estrogen typically helps maintain. This leads to further breakage, thinning, and a lack of shine
Ingredient matters
The formulation of the Hair Oil you use matters. To maximize potential results, Rasananada Ayurveda combined Sesame Oil, Amla Oil, and Butterfly Pea when creating Boketto LAB Hair + Scalp for us.
Sesame Oil is rich in vitamins and minerals, including magnesium, calcium, and zinc, which help strengthen hair and promote healthy growth. It is also known for its ability to deeply nourish the scalp, improving circulation and helping to clear away buildup that could block hair follicles. Its natural antioxidant properties help protect the hair from environmental damage, while its moisturizing effects can hydrate both the scalp and hair strands, reducing breakage and dryness.
Amla Oil, derived from the Indian gooseberry, is a powerful ingredient in hair care, known for its ability to stimulate hair growth and prevent premature graying. High in vitamin C and antioxidants, Amla Oil strengthens hair follicles, promoting thicker, stronger hair. It also helps balance the scalp's natural oils, preventing dandruff and dryness, and supports the hair’s overall texture, making it softer and more resilient.
Butterfly Pea, a stunning flower known for its deep blue hue, is more than just visually captivating—it’s also an excellent source of antioxidants and anthocyanins, which help protect the hair and scalp from oxidative stress and free radical damage. Butterfly Pea is believed to stimulate hair follicles, which can promote healthier hair growth and improve the thickness of hair over time. Its gentle properties help soothe the scalp, reducing inflammation and promoting a balanced, healthy environment for hair growth.
Individually strong, and when combined, these ingredients work synergistically to nourish the scalp, strengthen hair, and support healthy, vibrant growth. They’re perfect for those struggling with thinning hair, dry scalp, or environmental damage, and they offer a holistic solution for anyone looking to enhance the health and appearance of their hair.
How to Hair & Scalp Oil
To get the most out of hair oiling, it’s important to know how to apply it effectively. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide:
- Start with clean, damp hair: Washing your hair before applying hair & scalp oil helps remove any dirt, oil, or product buildup, allowing the oil to penetrate the scalp more effectively. Damp hair also absorbs oils better than dry hair.
- Apply the oil to your scalp: Using your fingers or a dropper, apply the oil directly to your scalp. Focus on areas that need the most attention, like thinning spots or dry patches. Be sure to apply evenly to ensure full coverage.
- Massage your scalp: Once the oil is applied, gently massage your scalp for 3-5 minutes. This helps stimulate blood flow to the hair follicles, encourages relaxation, and ensures the oil is absorbed more effectively.
- Let it sit: For best results, leave the oil in your hair for at least 30 minutes. If you’re looking for deeper penetration, you can even leave it on overnight. Consider wrapping your hair in a towel or shower cap to avoid staining your pillows.
- Wash out the oil: After the treatment, wash your hair with your regular shampoo. You may need to shampoo twice to fully remove the oil.
- Frequency: For optimal results, apply the oil treatment 1-2 times per week. If you’re dealing with more severe thinning or scalp issues, you may choose to apply it more frequently, but be mindful not to overdo it.
