PRACTITIONER SPOTLIGHT

One in a Q&A series introducing the talented practitioners who make Boketto so special. Meet Malia Edgell:

What got you into your field?
I’m a licensed and board certified massage therapist with 17 years of experience. I offer customized massages, abdominal massage, herbal compress massage, and head & neck focus sessions. I got into massage because it was my dream job!

Share your one-sentence elevator pitch?
My superpower is my touch.

If you weren’t doing/being this ^^^, what would you do/be?
In my dreams, I’d be a musician, specifically a drummer but multiple instrumental skills and a killer voice would also be cool. Realistically, I’d be in floral design and a nature and wildlife photographer.

Your Memoir’s title?
A Tale of Two Gingers (The love story of me and my dog)

If you had an entire day free with no limits, how would you spend it?
I’d take my dog to a mountain lake and we'd spend the whole day swimming. Then all my loved ones would get together to share a slow meal on a patio of an amazing restaurant with even more amazing views. Then we’d all dance outside late into the night.

What was your latest adventure?
Spending two weeks, this summer, traveling in Alaska, Washington, and Utah.

Who would you have over for dinner and what would you serve?
I'm feeling nostalgic for big family dinners so I want all my friends and family to come over and I’d serve them a big breakfast spread for dinner.

Most memorable thing a teacher has shared with you?
“We change when we are in pain enough to change, we are supported enough to change, and we feel safe enough to change.”

Most memorable thing a client has shared with you?
Early on in my career a client told me that it felt like I was reading an instruction manual of their body while I was massaging. That was the first feedback that made me reflect on the nuances of therapeutic touch and the power of listening to bodies.

Window or aisle?
Window

10am or 10pm?
10pm because that means I’m almost asleep.

Desert Island song, movie, and book.

  • Song - Calling Your Name by Jon Batiste
  • Movie  - Moulin Rouge
  • Book - A really long historical fiction/fantasy adventure that will take forever to read because I cannot read a book twice

Best service you had at Boketto?
Any Ayruvedic treatment from Kayla. I feel like I'm transported to a different time and place. They are deeply healing.

Favorite Boketto product (currently) and why?
I'm loving Monks Deodorant Stick in Santo. The smell and texture are both so nice, and it works!

Motto to live by?
“Slow down to get more out of the moment.”
