A Movie Moment: Halloween Edition
What is it about scary movies?! “Horror films can put us in touch with what we're really afraid of, which are often socially constructed fears.” But not ANY film will do the trick. Team Boketto collected their Halloween Season favorites, for you. So, pop some popcorn and take a moment!
MARY - TIM BURTON’S SLEEPY HOLLOW
Our Shop Gal gets straight to the point: I recommend Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow because I’m a sucker for Johnny Depp and he’s extra entertaining as Ichabod Crane in this gothic-horror-mystery.
NIC - THE OMEN
Boketto Acupuncturist has some serious thoughts: All three The Omen movies. I’ve watched them so many times I know every seen. The ending is complete junk, but the rest of the movie puts artistic scenario to possibly one of the greatest fears we all have - the rise of the antichrist. Also - Rottweilers are cute as hell and it’s hilarious how these movies make them seem so vicious.
JELENA - THE SHINING
Boketto’s Founder has obvious good taste, and that extends to her movie preferences: I recommend The Shining because who doesn’t love a Kubrick masterpiece.
JENNIFER - THE WITCH
Our Creative Director goes for a period drama: I have this thing for westerns, and The Witch falls in that category, however… loosely. Puritans, patriarchal stress, cursed land, possession, and goats! This movie builds slowly— it nibbles away at you. Plus, its a visual and sound masterpiece.
KATE- THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK
Boketto’s Social Media Manager (and bonafide Word Witch) stays on brand: The Witches of Eastwick! Because I’d watch Cher, Michelle Pfieffer, and Susan Sarandon do anything together. And Jack Nicholson, too.
PASHA - THE CONJURING
Our Bodywork Therapist shares: While The Conjuring is a contemporary horror film franchise (7 movies and counting), it’s a classic scare with some very satisfying old house haunts.
SUZY - ROSEMARY’S BABY AND NOSFERATU
Our Merchandiser goes old school: Rosemary’s Baby is a classic (and stylish) horror flick that’s always fun to revisit. Also, Nosferatu - A 1920s Dracula movie with some beautifully spooky scenes!
OLIVIA - MIDSOMMAR
Our Massage Therapist likes it a little wild, grand, and possibly baffling: In her words: Who doesn't love horror that’s also art?! Midsommar delivers both in spades.
